SPARTITI valzer di mezzanotte valzer di mezzanotte spartito il valzer .So, our T&B club, originally formed in the early 1930's has been renamed. The new name is the Bumper Pile Bunchers club. I have been accepted as the Webmaster.I have incorporated the site to the one I work at. And my wife is the secretary of the club.
This site will focus on Bumper Pile Boats. The old name T&B club means, "Throw & Catch." The Boat would be caught in the pond and lifted to shore. You would then throw the boat back into the water. One had to keep a level head. These were not just "toys." They were workhorses of the early days. Boats were built in many parts of the country by men who had come from the boat building communities of Europe. These old workhorses did a lot of work, and saved many lives. Some of the hulls were built of cypress and others of wood. They had clinker planking, and all were "flat bottomed." Boats were sold and painted in many different colors. Some, like the Lundy's Ledge, were for sale to commercial operators. However, they were built primarily to be workhorses.
During the 1930's many of these boats were built of some of the largest gingko billets. The hull and deck were of hardwoods. The gingko billets were shaped, and notched, to a uniform depth. The boat, once completed, was painted. The hull was coated with Danish oil, and the decks were made of linseed oil. The boat was bound together with the billets, with the deck and the "saddle" at the front end, with the stems at the rear end.
The construction was fast and easy, so much so that many of these boats were completed in a single day. The billets were about 4-5" in diameter, which is a good size for the job. Many were built with a sheet of copper plating, which is how they came to be called copper boats. One of the famous ones is the Lundy's Ledge. The other well known one is the Flagship. She is a 20' wooden boat built for the United States Lighthouse Service.
The workmanship is incredible. Many of these boats are still working today. Most were built 0b46394aab
